For years, people who own a smartphone in Pakistan have been a victim to a flood of spam messages from various companies. Anyone in Pakistan can easily send a promotional message to hundreds and thousands of registered numbers through SMS companies in less than Rs.500.
So far there has been no way to report or block such promotional messages. But now the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has finally come up with a system that lets you report and block these messages.
The PTA announced today through SMS message that you can register your number with the ‘Do Not Call Register (DNCR) list which will effectively block most if not all spam messages sent to your number.
In order to register on DNCR, all you have to do is type ‘Reg’ and send it to 3627. And if you still keep getting those annoying calls and messages even after you have registered, you can call your service provider and report the number and that number will be registered with DNCR through PTA.
If for some reason you still want telemarketers to send you messages, you can unregister from the DNCR list by typing ‘Unreg’ and sending it to 3627.
If after registering on the DNCR, you still receive spam messages, you can also call 0800-55055 from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm to register a complaint with PTA. An email can also be sent to register your complaint on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Keep in mind this service will not block messages you receive from your cellular company.
