You may remember Omar Gilani’s version of sci-fi Pakistan. But if you thought that was the only futuristic depiction of Pakistan, here is another.
Upcoming Pakistani short film, titled ‘Shehr-e-Tabassum’s teaser has just been released and it is unlike anything you will see from the Pakistani animation industry.
First look at the teaser will remind you classics like Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell, Akira, and novels like George Orwell’s 1984. It is indeed inspired by these cyberpunk and dystopian era books, animations and films.
Shehr-e-Tabassum describes itself something like this:
Shehr e Tabassum is the first of its kind animated Urdu short film set in a dystopian future… It is the year 2071. There have been no reported instances of terrorism or violent crime in over 3 decades in Pakistan. The cost – the systematic subjugation of human emotion.
Welcome to Shehr e Tabassum
The film hopes to introduce Pakistani audience to a genre that is not so common in the country. It is the brainchild of Ayesha Iftikhar and is directed by Arafat Mazhar.
