Last year’s Mate 10 Pro was one of the most successful flagship phones of Huawei, which means the Mate 20 Pro has huge shoes to fill. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer revealed the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro today and they’re both top of the end devices that may actually succeed the last year’s Mate 10 lineup.
Design-wise, the Mate 20 Pro looks a lot like Samsung Galaxy S9+, but when you look at the spec sheet of the phone, this is where the Mate series shine. There are only a couple of things that left us unimpressed – such as the square camera adjustment at the back which looks bulky.
Mate 20 Pro design
The Mate 20 Pro has curved glass edges on every side of the phone with a slightly smaller screen compared to Mate 20 and Mate 20 Lite. For those of you who enjoy big screens, Mate 20 may be better for you.
Another design change is the exclusion of the fingerprint scanner from the backside of the phone. Instead, the Mate 20 Pro has an on-screen fingerprint scanner.
Huawei claims that the on-screen fingerprint scanner technology has been vastly improved for a smooth and fast unlock experience.
The Mate 20 Pro has a 6.39 inch OLED display with curved glass edges. It boasts a resolution of 3120 x 1440 resolution with full notch design.
Mate 20, on the other hand, has a 6.53 inch LCD display with a resolution of 2244 x 1080 resolution with dewdrop notch.
Mate 20 Pro hardware specs
As far as the performance goes, the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro both come with a Kirin 980 Octa-core processor. The phone is supposedly 20 percent faster and 40 percent more efficient than Mate 10 Pro.
The Mate 20 Pro has 4200mAh battery while the Mate 20 has 4000mAh battery. The Pro version has Qi Wireless charging which is notably absent on the standard Mate 20.
The Mate 20 Pro also has 40W fast-charging technology which enables it to charge to 70% in just 30 minutes.
Mate 20 Cameras
Both Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 has triple rear Leica cameras and single front-facing cameras. Mate 20 Pro has 40MP wide-angle f/1.8, 20MP ultrawide-angle f.2/2, 8 MP tele f/2.4 while Mate 20 has 12MP wide-angle f/1.8, 20MP ultrawide-angle f/2.2, 8MP tele f/2.4 cameras.
The Mate 20 Pro is as premium a smartphone as it gets. Expect the phone to be priced equivalent to the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 which is around Rs. 102,999.
