35 international athletes have arrived in Pakistan to participate in the Karakoram Marathon 2018

Participents have arrived in Pakistan from countries including the USA, UK, Belgium, Canada, Ireland, Scotland and more

35 runners from 24 countries touched down on the soil of Pakistan on the 26th of August to participate in the upcoming Karakoram Marathon 2018 challenge.

The marathon is being organized by Pakistan Air Force (PAF) in collaboration with Serena Hotels and international travel company Z Adventures.

The Marathon will be held at 11,300 feet above the sea-level in the Naltar Valley Gilgit.

When the athletes arrived in Islamabad on the 26th of August, they were warmly welcomed and were taken to tour the capital city of Pakistan. The athletes enjoyed their visit to Lok Virsa and Pakistan Monument.

They were then taken to Gilgit where they spent a day. The team has now reached Naltar Valley where the Marathon is taking place.

The participants will be racing in the full 42.2 kilometers marathon as well as the half marathon category which is 21.1 kilometers long.


Participating countries in the Karakoram Marathon 2018

The Karakoram Marathon 2018 will be participated by 70 members of the armed forces of Pakistan along with 30 local runners and 35 international runners.

According to a press release by PAF, the youngest participant is 10 years old while the oldest participant is 80 years old. Here are the names of the best runners participating in the marathon:

  • Janos Kiss – Hungary
  • Edit Kiss – Hungary
  • John Lum Young – Trinidad
  • Giuseppe Raguso – Italy
  • JC Santa Teresa – USA
  • Rene Olsen – Denmark
  • Dan Micola – Czech Republic
  • Zara Rahim – Canda/Pakistan
  • Mekaal Rahim – Canada/Pakistan
  • Philippe Waroux – France
  • David Darton – UK
  • Colin Lea – UK

Other athletes from Australia, Belgium, Egypt, Tunisia, Faroe Islands, Poland, Qatar, UAE, Argentina, Ireland, Taiwan, China, Scotland, and the Netherlands will also be part of the event.

The Marathon event has kickstarted in Naltar Valley today. It will last for 7 hours before the participants will be taken back to the nearest PAF base.
