Former Pakistani superstar fast bowler and head coach of the Pakistani team, Waqar Younis took on Twitter to apologize for cutting cake while celebrating Wasim Akram’s birthday yesterday in Leeds.
While Pakistan played against England outside, the senior team of journalists and commentators celebrated the birthday of Sultan of Swing Wasim Akram’s birthday.
The pictures and video of the celebration were released on Twitter and Facebook which immediately faced a backlash from Pakistanis because it appeared during the daytime when the entire country was fasting.
People immediately started criticising the stars for cutting and eating cake while everyone else was fasting. A lot of people were angered because it disrespected the spirit of Ramadan.
Immediately after the video and pictures, Waqar Younis posted a tweet saying;
Apologise to everyone for cutting cake on Waseem Bhai’s birthday yesterday. We should have respected Ramadan and the people who were fasting. It was a poor act on our behalf
This isn’t the first time cricket legends have been criticized for drinking or eating during Ramadan. Just recently Ramiz Raja faced backlash when he was seen drinking orange juice during the shoot of a video for his YouTube show.
Ramiz Raja however immediately apologized after he was criticized and cited health issues for not fasting.
