For many of us boys growing up in the 90s, playing with dinky cars was one of the best time pass activities of our childhood. We would collect various toy cars and pit them against our friend’s cars in miniature races or crash them together for fun.
As we grew, other activities took over our free time and soon we all forgot about dinky cars. But one man from Lahore continued to collect them and even today keeps adding more and more toy cars to his collection.
Meet Amir Ashfaq, a resident of Allama Iqbal Town, Lahore who possesses more than 5,500 toy cars in his collection. His collection boasts miniature versions of world’s top cars including Mercedes Benz, BMW, Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Fiat, Peugeot, Renault, Citroen, MG, Austin Martin, Land Rover, Range Rover, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Morgan, Jaguar, Mini Cooper, Morris, Ford, Datsun, Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Isuzu, Mazda, Toyota, Lexus, Subaru, Hyundai, Bugatti, Holden, Hummer, Chevrolet, Buick, Oldsmobile, Cadillac, Pontiac, Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge and more.
Collecting toy cars has always been Amir’s passion. He started collecting these cars when he was in the first grade. He recalls that whenever he and his family visited the nearest toy shop, he would always insist on buying small toy cars and never had any interest in other toys offered at the store.
Collecting toy cars soon became a hobby of Amir who is now considered to be the only man in South Asia to have such a large collection of toy cars. At age 45, he now wants to beat the record of Lebanese toy car collector Billy Karam who has more than 25,000 toy cars in his collection.
Amir is determined to increase his collection no matter what. He lives with his family in Lahore and never lets his hobby get in the way of his responsibilities. He has even dedicated a room to his collection where he displays the thousands of toy cars he owns.
