Citizens of Kohat, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi can now finally travel comfortably to and from Kohat through train for a meager sum of RS. 160.
The Railways minister inaugurated the upgraded Kohat Express on Wednesday at the Kohat Railway Station which opens up a much-needed option for traveling to Rawalpindi for Kohat residents.
The train service which connected this route was suspended in 2011 due to poor tracks, signaling systems, and lack of trains. The re-launched service will now connect residents of Kohat to other regions as well apart from Rawalpindi.
To help re’launch the train service, Pakistan Railways have upgraded Kohat Cantt Railway Station as well as stations at Tarnol, Jand, and Bosal. They have added 7 improved coaches that will travel on these routes.
Additionally, signaling systems at Gugan, Fateh Jang, Babri Panda, and Faqeer Hussain Shaheed has also been upgraded for safe traveling on the route.
Previously the residents of Kohat had to resort to minivan services which were pretty much the only option to travel between Kohat, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi. These weren’t only uncomfortable to ride but were also potentially dangerous.
For those of you wondering how the station used to look like, here are some photos from before the up-gradation.
Distance and timings info
The total expected time to reach Kohat from Rawalpindi on the new train service is about 3 hours and 3 minutes. Along the way, the train will go through Golra Sharif, Fateh Jhang, Basal and Jand Stations.
The train is scheduled to start its journey every day at 7:30 AM and will embark on its journey from Kohat Railway Station.
From Rawalpindi, the train will embark on its journey at 3:30 PM every day from the Rawalpindi Railway Station. Currently, the rail car is offering economy class coaches at the price of the second-class fare.
With the new service, residents of Kohat will not only be able to travel safely but will also enjoy an affordable and comfortable ride.
