Pakistani cartoonist fetches Guinness world record for Pakistan

Unaiza Ali Barlas, an artist, animator, and cartoonist based in Lahore recently secured a Guinness World Record by creating world’s largest comic strip. The strip was completed by here at the Gillani Park Lahore on the 12th of March 2017.

The comic strip measures 267.38 meters (877 feet) in length. The record that Unaiza just beat was previously held by an artist from India ‘ Suhas Palimkar. At the venue, the strip was observed by at least four officials who were witnesses and a professional certified civil surveyor.

After the measurements were taken, the record was sent off to the Guinness team who after further investigation declared the record to be valid.

On the occasion, Unaiza said that she was always passionate about drawing cartoons and wanted to do something big for the country. She decided to create the comic strip in celebration of the 70th independence day of Pakistan.

She came across the comic strip record when she was browsing the website of Guinness World Records. After recognizing the record and coming to the conclusion that it was beatable, she started working on it. She completed the comic during a gap year she had taken from high school education.
