This mosque in Turkey has carpets and walls that look like grass and sky

The interior of the mosque was inspired from Surah Al-Baqarah

A mosque centrally located in the city of Kirsehir in Turkey is drawing attention from across the world for its unique interior.

The mosque’s interior consists of ceiling and wall that is adorned with paintings of a beautiful light blue sky, trees and clouds while the carpets (the praying mats) give a look of a beautiful garden. The Minbar (the place where imam sits to lead the prayer) of the mosque has also been adorned with a beautiful waterfall.

The beautiful interior of the mosque is unlike anything anyone has ever seen. It has been painted by an Azerbaijani architect. According to the Imam of the mosque, the interior design has been inspired from the Ayah 22 from Surah Al-Baqarah from the Holy Qur’an.

(Allah) Who has made the earth a resting place for you, and the sky as a canopy, and sent down water (rain) from the sky and brought forth therewith fruits as a provision for you. Then do not set up rivals unto Allah (in worship) while you know (that He Alone has the right to be worshipped)

According to the current Imam of the mosque, the groundwork of the mosque was prepared after he learned about the history of its origins. The architects were then called in to start painting the wall with light blue skies, trees between the window panes and a beautiful waterfall on the mihrab prayer niche area. It was all done to capture the spirit of the ayah and show it through the mosque’s design.
