By now you are probably very well aware of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s ‘Mere Rashke Qamar’, a qawwali so iconic that it single handedly created thousands of fans for NFAK.
The original Qawwali, performed by Nusrat Sahab in 1988 has since then been reproduced many times by various artists in both Pakistan and India.
Today, the producers behind the upcoming Bollywood film ‘Baadshaho’ released a rendition of the Qawwali, but the what’s so special about this version? It features the voices of both Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. Check it out below and decide how this version stands for you.
Renditions and Original Qawwali
The ‘Mere Rashke Qamar’ was an Urdu Ghazal penned down by the great Fana Buland Shehri. It was picked by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan who performed a Qawwali on it.
The ‘Mere Rashke Qamar’ Qawwali did not get as popular as NFAK’s other qawwali’s, but it is still to date one of the most poetic and powerful ones.
Its popularity is quite evident from a number of renditions are out there. So far the only rendition that has earned people’s approval was the one Rahat Fateh Ali Khan performed. Check it out.
