In 2002, a major shift in the rock music scene of Pakistan came with the arrival of Pepsi Battle of the Bands which introduced the country to some of the finest underground bands of Pakistan.
These bands included the iconic Entity Paradigm (EP) and the winners of Pepsi Battle of the Bands, Aaroh. Following the show, many rock bands that used to perform underground came out of their hiding and Pakistan enjoyed an era filled with Rock n Roll music.
But then gradually, the rock scene shifted to more of a mellow mainstream music scene and these bands once again disappeared into thin air while some of them completely changed their musical influences to pursue the mainstream music market of Pakistan.
Now things are about to change as Pakistan is getting a second chance at Rock music with Pepsi Battle of the Bands set to make a huge comeback!
Just a couple of months ago, vague rumors of Fawad Khan (lead vocalist Entity Paradigm) joining the Pepsi BOTB surfaced. We can now confirm that the rumors were true. Fawad was recently sighted on the sets of the Pepsi Battle of The Bands and he wasn’t alone.
A video footage captured from a smartphone shows Fawad Khan paired with the ever so popular Atif Aslam performing a song on stage. A few more photos show Meesha Shafi also on the stage.
With these three iconic rock stars on the stage of Pakistan’s biggest Rock music competition, we’re pretty excited to see what will become of the Rock n Roll scene in Pakistan.
