Samsung has finally unveiled the highly anticipated Galaxy S8 and from what we have seen so far, it is one of the finest phones of this year so far. The smartphone manufacturer released a video showcasing the different features of their next flagship phone.
As expected, the Samsung Galaxy S8 will come in two different variants, The Galaxy S8 and S8+. The S8 has a 5.8 inches screen whereas the S8 Plus holds a massive 6.2 inches screen.
Here is everything we know about its hardware and specifications. Let’s have a detailed look at what the new Galaxy S8 has to offer.
Perhaps the biggest change in the new Samsung Galaxy is its screen. Samsung has gone way beyond to extend the screen from up to down to cover the entire front with a screen, making it a perfect bezel-less phone. The screen also curves from the sides which Samsung is calling the ‘infinity display’.
With the screen extended to the very bottom of the phone, there is no more room for the traditional home button. So the manufacturer has added software buttons instead.
With the home button gone, the fingerprint sensor has also found a new place to call home. The Samsung Galaxy S8 now has the fingerprint sensor at the back of the phone right next to the camera.
Samsung has also added a brand new button which is dedicated to a never before seen software feature Bixby, which is essentially a new virtual assistant with a couple of massive changes. According to Samsung, the goal with Bixby was to allow the user to do every single thing they do with voice instead of touch. To launch the assistant, you will only have to press this button and start speaking.
The only thing that hasn’t changed on the phone hardware is the camera. Samsung seems to have found a home with Samsung Galaxy S7 camera. You’ll get the exact same 12-megapixel camera with all the same features. However, there are some changes on the software that enhances the picture quality, but there’s nothing significant to mention here.
The front facing camera has however been upgraded (good news selfie lovers!). The new front camera now comes with an 8-megapixel sensor with autofocus feature, something that isn’t quite common amongst other Android phones.
For the battery, Samsung is playing safe especially with what happened with the Note 7. The Samsung Galaxy S8 will have 3000 mAH battery while the S8 Plus will have a 3500 mAH battery. The manufacturer has assured that they have adjusted the software to make the battery long last.
As far as the software goes, Samsung S8 has Android 7.0 Nougat with the traditional TouchWiz makeover. There aren’t any other significant changes here.
