Google Honors Edhi With A Doodle

Today marks the 89th birthday of Abdul Sattar Edhi, world’s most renowned philanthropist and founder of Abdul Sattar Edhi Foundation, the largest volunteer ambulance network of the world.

In honor of his 89th birthday, Google changed it’s with a doodle in various countries of the world including Iceland, United States, United Kingdom, Portugal, New Zealand, Australia, Ireland, Pakistan, Japan, and Estonia.

Edhi passed away last year in Karachi due to renal failure. He lived most of his life with simplicity and modesty, helping others throughout his life.

Edhi founded his network of ambulances when he was only 20 years old. His foundation grew over the years to become one of the largest volunteer networks of ambulances in the world operated in Pakistan.

Edhi Foundation is currently the largest welfare organization in Pakistan. In 1997, the foundation made it to the Guinness World Records as the largest volunteer ambulance organization. It became so large that when you dialed 115 in Pakistan, the Edhi Foundation would answer your call.

The team at Google has created more than 2000 doodles celebrating such noble individuals in the world. Recently, the team created doodles to honor likes of Fred Korematsu, Pramoedya Ananta Toer, Edmonia lewis and many others amongst these few.
