Report: Pakistan Ranked Second For Selfie Deaths In The World

In a report titled ‘Me, Myself and My Killfie’, issued by the Carnegie Mellon University, USA. It was found out that Pakistan has the second highest number of deaths due to selfies.

Now known as Killfies, are on the rise gradually throughout the world. The researchers at the university were able to find 127 deaths reported so far due to selfies since March 2014.

Pakistan has had 9 deaths due to selfies since 2014, behind India who is first with 76 recorded deaths so far.

Following Pakistan is the USA with a total of 8 recorded deaths and then it’s Russia, Philippines, China and Spain with 8,6,4 and 3 deaths respectively.

Interestingly, Pakistan has a total population of 182.1 million against the US which has 318.9 million. With almost double population, U.S is still behind Pakistan when it comes to deaths by selfies.

And even more interesting is China whose population is 1.357 billion and is still behind India, Pakistan and U.S.

Here are the deaths recorded from Pakistan so far:

June 2015 

A 15-year-old boy was taking a selfie with a toy gun when nearby police thought he was using an actual gun. The police opened fire on him, killing him.

December 2015 

22-year-old man died when taking a selfie while standing on the track of a train while the train was coming at him.

August 9, 2016 

An 11-year-old girl drowned when trying to take a selfie at the Kuhnar river in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Her mother also died when she tried to save her drowning daughter. When the father of the girl saw both of them drowning, he jumped in and was also drowned.

August 20, 2016

Another death was recorded in Kuhnar village when a man attempted to take a selfie and slipped into the river. His cousin attempted to save the drowning man but was also swept away and drowned.

August 21, 2016

Three women were killed while taking a selfie at Lake Saiful Muluk. They were standing under a glacier when the roof collapsed on them and crushed them to death.
