Punjab To Launch Free Car Service For Doctors In An Attempt To Improve Health System

A resolution was passed at The Primary and Secondary Healthcare (P&SHC) Department which will see the launch of free car services for doctors working at the Tehsil Headquarter and District Headquarter hospital areas of the Punjab province.

A source close to the Punjab government confirmed to The Nation that officials are currently working on reforms in the healthcare service delivery sector.

Part of the reforms includes ways to facilitate doctors and consultants to travel effortlessly between the Tehsil Headquarter and District Headquarter hospitals under a new rotation scheme.

To make this work, the government is partnering up with local firms, companies, and joint ventures that provide ‘rental car services’ in all of Punjab districts.

When a suitable company is picked, it will be responsible for giving pick and drop services to enable doctors to commute between the two locations. This will also ensure they reach the destination in minimal time.

According to the resolution, at least 2 vehicles must be present in each of the district. And, the registered vehicles must be in excellent condition with working Air Conditioner, a navigation system to track location and other facilities.

The vehicles will also be connected with a call center which will coordinate the flow of the cars.
