Ahmed ‘Wolverine’ Mujtaba is quite possibly the only talented MMA fighter Pakistan has produced so far. He is ferocious, he is unbeatable and he is a champion.
Watch the intense fight of Ahmed against Bendict that took place in the ONE Champion:
The undefeated Pakistani Wolverine has recently been upgraded to ONE Championship, which is the second highest league in the world and the best in Asia.
Wolverine Mujtaba won his match following a unanimous decision by the judges against his opponent, Benedict Ang.
Ahmed holds an undefeated record of 8 wins so far which is regarded very highly in the world of MMA.
But Pakistan doesn’t seem to care about his efforts.
The ONE Champion is a large scale platform which is recognized all over the world and is regarded as one of the finest leagues. Becoming a champion for this league is no small feat.
But back home in Pakistan, no one seems to know what MMA is let alone the league.
It is more challenging, demands more training because not everyone gets a chance to fight in ONE Championship. There are only two Pakistani MMA fighters who have fought in ONE Championship; Bashir Ahmad who is the pioneer of MMA in Pakistan and his student Waqar Omer. It is a great victory because Ang is very good fighter and was undefeated before this match – said Ahmed Mujtaba.
Mujtaba went through extremely tough training to score a win
According to Ahmed Mujtaba, retaining is championship wasn’t an easy task. He had to reduce his wait from 76 KG into the 60s. He managed to drop his weight to 69KGs in just two weeks.
But upon returning from Singapore, where the event took place, Mujtaba found only a handful of people, mostly from his friends and family, to greet him.
He was shocked that no recognized media personnel was present to cover his story.
I have worked hard and have retained my championship in the second biggest MMA league and the media does not seem to care,The media can report anything, even unimportant issues like the chai wala, and broadcast it over and over again, but we the fighters who work so hard and showcase the name of Pakistan in a positive way, spread the message of peace, hardly get any attention by our own media, he added.
Ahmed is extremely disappointed at the attitude of the press
Ahmed is disappointed at the mainstream media because he has worked really hard to bring back name to Pakistan. In a world where everyone recognizes him as a champion, back home he is nothing but a simple man in a sport no one is aware of.
The champion has made it clear. If he isn’t received with due recognition, he will consider representing another country where he will likely be treated as a hero.
I have offers from other countries to represent them with great financial benefits and I will wait for one more week before I start considering other options,It has happened on eight straight occasions. There is a limit, and we deserve the rightful appreciation, which we haven’t got yet.
It’s about time our media starts focusing on other sports material to cover. We have so much talented individuals making name for Pakistan around the world and the media keeps on covering cricket.
More About MMA
Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) was originally promoted as a competition to find the most effective and powerful martial artist for real unarmed combat in the late 19th century.
It was a contest where various contestants appeared to show case their martial arts fighting styles. They were pitted against each other with very few rules. The ultimate rule was to use your style to win.
Later on, the sport became recognized and MMA promoters were pressured to add additional rules so the safety of sportsmen would increase and the rules would match that of the sport regulations. This would broaden its mainstream scope and would make it the MMA we know today.
MMA now has hundreds of promotions around the world that produce events regularly. One of the most popular and recognized names in the MMA world is UFC.
