But learning a language isn’t exactly easy. It can take you a lot of time to learn a language. Going abroad without the knowledge of local language can be a painful experience.
If you want to fully enjoy your trip and get to know the local people better, it is a great idea to learn the fundamentals of a language of the place you’re visiting.
Thankfully, now you can learn the basics of many popular languages easily.
Duolingo is an application that allows you to learn a language of your choice through interactive lessons. This is by far the easiest way to learn basics of a language. All you have to do is spend 10 – 20 minutes daily on the application and you will easily pick up the basics.
Duolingo is free to use
Duolingo is a free application that can teach you many different languages with ease. The app features interactive lessons that teach you:
Duolingo is so good that it recently became Apple iPhone App of the Year.
It was also featured on many well known publications. Here’s what they had to say about it:

“Duolingo may hold the secret to the future of education.”—TIME Magazine
PC Magazine Editors’ Choice for Language Learning: “Among iPhone apps for learning or practicing a language, you can’t beat Duolingo.”
“The most productive means of procrastination I’ve ever discovered. The short lesson blocks are painless and peppy, and reaching the next level (and then the level after that) becomes addictive.” —Slate
Duolingo completely changes the way you learn a language. It offers very short interactive lessons that are extremely fun to complete. There is no way you won’t pick up a new language while learning through Duolingo.
After completing a lesson, you earn experience points and level up. New tougher and fun exercises unlock. You can also compete against your friends, siblings and partner.
The best bit about the application? It’s free to use.
The iOS version of the app just added interactive bots
For those using the application on iPhone, Duolingo has made it even easier and fun to learn a language.
The developers have just added chatbots which talk to you like real people. You can talk back to them in their native language or tap on the ‘Help me reply’ button to get help in replying back.
There are currently three bots available in three different languages. Only Spanish, French and German courses offer chatbots for now. Duolingo has promised to add more bots in the future as well as support for other languages.
