With the recent announcement of free public Wi-Fi in Rawalpindi, Lahore and Multan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has just announced that they are making Wi-Fi go free in all of the universities of the province. They are calling this initiative ‘KP Open Wi-Fi’.
Following this direction, the universities of KP will facilitate it’s students by making Wi-Fi go free. The directions were given by the KP minister of Information Technology Shahram Tarakai. He directed the IT wings of all universities in the KP to ensure this service is available around the clock.
The minister has also asked the KP Information Technology Board to come up with an effective and affordable plan for the project so the students can expect this service to go live sooner.
The difference between KP Open Wi-Fi and Public Wi-Fi in other cities of Pakistan.
The National Telecommunication Policy of 2015 allows the use of Wi-Fi hot spots for commercial use. This means that the public Wi-Fi for Lahore, Rawalpindi and Multan is actually a pretty good deal for the Internet Service Providers.
